Temat: Plex "Channels"
Given that there are more and more "TV Channel" apps on Plex (CBS Sports, NBC, Hulu, FoodTV, HGTV, etc, etc), rather than having those apps found in the "Watch Video" section, would it not be more intuitive for those to be in the " Watch TV Shows" section? Within that area you could have a "Channels" menu item and a "Downloaded Shows" or something like that section, then when the Channels menu item is selected you get a list of the TV plugins...just a thought.

I have it set up as follows: on external HD Folder - TV SHOWS (source folder) Folder - How I Met Your Mother File - How I Met Your Mother S01E01.avi I use tvdb.com as the scrape source. I have heard mention of that database being down or something. Would that affect it? I feel like I am doing all that I am supposed to do and the files show up in my "Watch Videos" library and I can watch from there, but not when I go to " Watch TV Shows"

Hi All, I have a strange problem in that when I go to view the TV shows I have on my mac via the " Watch TV Shows" option on the main menu it does not show all the content I have. For example if I scroll down to Fringe, I can see the show title but I cannot see any content inside it. But if I got to "Watch my Videos" off the main menu I can navigate to the files and watch the content no problem. Hope that makes sense anybody got any ideas? Thanks, P

In the " Watch TV Shows / Recently Added" section would it be possible to add the Show Title Name above the Thumbnail preview? Currently it just shows the episode Number, and when multiple shows are added, one must read the description to see what show is added.

I guess there's only so much they want to do with MediaStream. It sounds like once the reach ver 1.0 they are going to be working on another skin that's more fanart friendly. You're probably right, but it's a shame since it would be such an easy fix (or it appears it would be). I can not watch TV shows in the media-stream view because of this, so I feel like I'm missing out on some awesome visuals/skins etc because of stubbornness on their part. *sigh*

Just recently installed Plex and I'm trying to get everything up and running. I added some sources for TV shows and updated my library. Now, when I go to watch tv shows, the only show I'm seeing is 'Projekt X: Easy TV', which is a show I don't have. When I go to watch this show, it turns out to be True Blood. I fussed around with the settings a little bit, and now when I go back to my tv shows, 'Projec=kt X: Easy TV' is still there, but now it's pointing to the first season of Weeds. Temat: Background music within TV Shows
Before I started playing around with different skins when I selected Watch TV Shows, and selected a show, the theme music would come up, then i started playing with Plexaeon and went back to the default skin. Once i went to Plexaeon, when I went into TV shows in either skin, the theme music no longer loads...any thoughts? Probably something simple i am missing.

Hello everyone, I have just setup my C2D mac mini system as a proper media center with all my movies and tv shows. Now my movies work perfectly fine coming up with artwork & info etc, but my Top Gear TV shows fail to show up in the " watch tv shows section. I have tried everything it has said I think, but could someone please go over a few things I may have missed. I have tried naming the tv shows like Top Gear - S010E05.avi etc, but nothing works it still says 0 TV shows. I am one of the few, I suppose, who is watching his material on his macbook and not on an external screen. I primarily watch tv shows, .mkv to be precise. I usually have different color settings depending on the movie or tv show I'm watching ( i.e. cooler and darker colors for crime and thriller movies/shows). I suspect plex will attach the functions for the brightness and contrast controls eventually. Maybe a color control as well.

seems to be something wrong again. Installing plex on my MBP so I can watch TV shows while the main TV is being used, and so I need to rescrape my TV shows. Nothing :( If plex allowed me an easy way to connect to a 'master' version (i.e my mac mini) and get the database from there it'd be a great help, and reduce the load on sites like thetvdb.com (you have to hit it once for every computer running plex in your house)

...move to the trash all the files that end with ".db" Start Plex. You should still see all your Sources but they will have had the Content type erased, so nothing will be in the library. Go to Watch Videos and find the source that you use for tv shows and set the content type back again to TV Shows, select TVDB as the scraper with default settings. Then right-click (or ctrl-click) on it to scan for new content. Shortly you should find all your TV shows now available in Watch TV Shows. As for the naming conventions it didn't seem to matter. I did have a separate folder for each show, but it did not seem to matter whether I had a season sub-folder or not. As for the actual files they were all in a format like "CSI.Miami.S07E24.HDTV.XviD-LOL.avi" and got recognised no problem. Hope this works for you too.....

...of the available updates, though have chosen at this point unless absolutely necessary not to apply them. I've installed the latest Candelair as suggested. I got Plex 0.8.3-2e5ac85. I go to Watch your videos -> Add source -> Browse Source -> Home Folder -> Music -> iTunes And now I'm finding that after trying to configure both Music and iTunes folder as part of my source, it just freezes when I select my source, and I can only go back. When I select Watch TV shows and Movies, it can't find either. How do I clear the sources from the Finder? How do I set it up so that it can see the TV shows and Movies I've already put in iTunes?

Hi All, I'm kinda new to forums, and brand new to this one, so pardon me if I make mistakes. I'm experiencing a problem with the scraper for the Twilight Zone series from 2002. I have the folder named The Twilight Zone (2002), and episodes in that folder named The Twilight Zone (2002) 1x01, 1x02, etc. The problem is, when I navigate to watch tv shows, it displays as The Twilight Zone, without the (2002) even though it is part of the file name, with the episode names from the original series, and it says the original air date as 5/10/27, yes, 27. I added Buffy the Vampire Slayer the same way, and all those episodes display fine. Both were added at the same time, from the same source. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Oh, and I used tvdb.com for the set content. Thanks

...to watch Hulu. Seems like any solution that isn't a VPN or the like is a waste of time. Plus the BBC has good reasons and they are very open otherwise. But not doing something because the content providers don't want it seems to go against the whole Plex experience. If the executives at Fox, NBC Universal, Sony Entertainment, et. all were ever given a complete demo of Plex they would faint for how much control it strips from them. ...of season 1: I addded a folder called "How I Met Your Mother" in my YV shows folder and added a random file to it called "how I met your mother S01E01.avi" it scraped fine. there's nothing wrong with the thetvdb.com scraper, so I think the root of the problem should be sought within the settings of your source. could you exactly tell me/us what settings you use for your TV SHOWS source? you're saying that none of your TV shows appear in " watch TV shows", right? It's one of the few reasons I definitly want the (potential) new MacMini hooked up to my 42" plasma so my girlfriend and I can actually watch TV-Shows and Movies without any fuzz. Hey, I hope this has not been asked before and I didn't see it.. I have a small 7inch display (usb, nanovision mimo) that I use to control plex with. It has a resolution of 800 x 480. Perfect to display my music, weather etc.. on top of that I have a projector that i only turn on to watch tv shows and movies. Right now I have the two displays mirrored. Meaning I need to use the same 800x480 resolution on the projector even though it can display higher resolutions.. I was wondering if there was a way to keep the interface on my small display and when needed output video to my projector without having to mirror the two displays and therefore being able to use a higher resolution for the videos on the projector. ...lI ripped a DVD today using HandBrake and it saved it to an external Hard Drive called "Media". Inside that hard drive is a folder called "Movies". The file is a .m4v file. When I go to Plex and do Add Source and navigate to that folder, it is empty. I quit Plex and tried it a second time. Nothing. llI have a couple seasons of a TV show and the files are .avi files. I added them just fine, but they show up under "Watch Your Videos" and not under " Watch TV Shows". Whether it is with TV shows or Movies, how does Plex correctly assign them to the right menu item? For instance, I don't separate my anime into TV vs movies, as any given series will frequently have a mix of TV, specials, movies, etc - but TheTVDB.com still tracks it all for me. Instead of tagging the content as "TV Show", I'd tag it as "Anime", and select the proper scraper from a list of all available. Then "Watch Anime" would be added to the main screen along with " Watch TV Shows" and "Watch Movies". As others have pointed out, you can kind of sort of do this with "Watch Videos", but then Plex just becomes a glorified directory browser. My only request is please DON'T base this on folder structure. That code is creaky enough as it is. Just look at all of the support requests related to the scraper already. Tie this feature into folder structure, and I predict chaos.

Temat: Reinstall - Unable to scrape ANYTHING Scraping doesn't work. Period.
...What I did was I did a complete reinstall of the system when I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Now this happens: Nothing in Movies or TV Show Add source (like I have done many times before) and selecting all the right options. Scraper just doesn't start. Tried deleting preferences files. Library files. Pretty much short of nuking everything (oh my poor plugins...). What happens is, I add the sources and nothing happens. No scraping. No nothing. Watch Movies and Watch TV Shows show the "nothing added yet" screen. The sources work in the Video view (as expected), but here's the kicker: If I quit Plex and restart it they are simply GONE. Vanished. I can try re-adding them with the same results. I just don't bother with Plex at all these days (unless for watching streams) and just use the finder and quick look to view my shows and movies as that's the easier solution :( I am simply baffled. I was hoping handbrake would allow me to do it but I havent found a way to extract the chapters yet. If anyone has a good suggestion I am all for it. BTW I was able to scrape everything that goes with the series. Plex gives me the chappelle fan art and if I click on it in watch tv shows it even gives the background music. I even manually tried scanning for new content (held menu button on remote) yet under Watch TV Shows section, no shows or episodes are listed. Using a Harmony 676 remote with Plex 7.7 and the standard keymaps. If the "menu" key is pressed while on the main screen (i.e. the Watch TV Shows icon is selected), Plex no longer responds to navigation commands from the remote or keyboard. The application must be terminated using command-Q from the keyboard.

So, I just got Plex up and running on my new mac mini with Snow Leopard. I have been searching for a solution to this problem. Any help would be much appreciated. I have added all our movies to Plex and love it. But when going to add a TV show season, it will load in the "Watch Your Videos" library but when I head over to " Watch TV Shows" there are no files listed, only a thumbnail with a blue (NO) sign. So, there is something happening that is not allowing me to enter my TV shows and they are not being scraped? properly. Is this a PLEX issue or Snow Leopard issue or tvdb.com issue or a combination of the 3. Help.

I think there would be a lot less confusion if "Watch Videos" were to be renamed "Browse Videos" or "Video File Browser", which is what it actually is. IMO, "Watch Movies" and " Watch TV Shows" can remain how they are, or possibly be thrown into a "Video Library" tab. I think that's a bit better laid out.

Hi I just downloaded Plex and I was able to set up my movies no problem, however when I tried to set up TV Shows, I dont have any options when I click on watch tv shows. The bottom half of the screen is shaded and I have no add source option, like I did in movies and videos. Am I missing something? I have added two folders as sources: Movies Folder (Content type set to Movies, IMDB.com) TV Folder (Content type set to TV Shows, TVDB.com) If I go to Watch Movies, all the Movies come up with the scraped info. It's not all accurate but I can live with that. If I go to Watch Videos and navigate to the TV Folder, I can see all the shows... But if I go to Watch TV Shows, it doesn't see anything at all, not even file names... The files are all in a name format such as this: CSI.New.York.S07E03.HDTV.XviD-LOL Am I doing something wrong? This is in Plex 8 but had same problem in Plex 7. Thanks.....

...moved into a new apartment I finally have a chance to use it as a media server! Only one hiccup - the movies/tv shows don't stream properly. I have a 2TB External hooked up to my old white Macbook, I have the 802.11n enabled Airport Express hosting the network, and I watch the movies on a 2 year old Macbook (the aluminum one, before they became Macbook Pros again). I mount the external over the wireless on my newer Macbook and Plex finds the files just fine. However, when I watch TV shows they stutter interminably, or outright stop. I tried lowering the cache (I had had it at 20 seconds before), and that didn't help. In regular file transfers between the two I usually get speeds of 600 K per second, which is more than fast enough to watch the files at the qualities I ripped them. However, for some reason, the streaming simply cuts out. Does anyone have any suggestions? I can modify the Airport settings (multicast rate maybe?), I can...
